To safely install electrical appliances in the bathroom, we use zones. The bathroom is divided into three zones, each with different safety regulations. The zones work as follows:
- Zone 0: In the shower, sink, or bathtub. A minimum protection class of IPX7 applies.
- Zone 1: This is the vertical partition where the shower or bathtub is located. A minimum protection class of IP65 applies.
- Zone 2: This is the 60cm area next to the shower, bathtub, or sink, and a minimum height of 2.25m. A minimum protection class of IP44 applies. This is the safest place to install the fan.
- Zone 3: This is the area next to zone 2. This is the safest zone, so only a minimum protection class of IP21 applies.
Installing a fan in the wrong area can have serious consequences. If you're inexperienced with installing a fan in a bathroom, consider hiring an electrician. They'll know exactly how to install the fan safely and are familiar with all safety regulations.
